Advisory Board

As part of the aim to strengthen and expand our association, the LSE AAB team has recently successfully secured the commitment of a selected group of highly accomplished and respected individuals as members of the Advisory Board of our association. The role of the Advisory Board is to provide advice and inspiration to the LSE AAB team. AB members are invited to sit at Board meetings, attend and speak at public events organised by our association, and overall, guide our action with their experience and advice.

The LSE AAB Advisory Board was officially launched on 16 March 2009 at an event in the official residence of the British Ambassador.

Roderick ABBOTT (Visiting Fellow at the LSE)

Currently, senior trade counselor with APCO Worldwide in Brussels and member of the Steering Committee of the European Centre for International Political Economy. Former Deputy Director General of the World Trade Organisation and prior to this, Deputy Director General of DG Trade in the European Commission and EU Ambassador to Geneva.

   
 

Jonathan BRENTON

British Ambassador to Belgium, previous postings Deputy Head of the Africa Department of the British Foreign & Commonwealth Office, First Secretary (Media) at the Embassy in Berlin, and First Secretary (Economic) at the Embassy in Moscow.

   

 

Baron Paul BUYSSE CMG, CBE

Chairman Bekaert Group, former CEO of Vickers plc (London). Among other positions, Baron Buysse is Chairman of the College of Censors of the National Bank of Belgium and Member of the Executive Committee of the Federation of Belgian Industry.

   

Etienne DE CALLATAY (LSE Alumnus)

Chief Economist at Bank Degroof, Brussels. Former Head of Staff of the Belgian Minister of Finance and Deputy Head of Staff of the Belgian Prime Minister. Previously served at the Central Bank of Belgium and at the IMF. Visiting lecturer at the University of Namur and the Catholic University of Leuven.

   

Karel DE GUCHT

European Commissioner for Trade. Former Commissioner for Development and Humanitarian Aid. Former Belgian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Member of the Belgian House of Representatives and Member of the European Parliament.

   
 

Nicola HARRINGTON-BUHAY (LSE Alumna)

Deputy Director for Policy and Communications, United
Nations/United Nations Development Programme. Served with the UN on four continents and led UN development policy engagement with the EU. Former UN Resident Coordinator in Serbia and Montenegro, as well as director of fundraising for the UNDP. Yale World Fellow 2008. Previously worked for the Bank of England

   

Philippe JADOUL

CEO of Vialegis International. Former President of the Council of the British Chamber of Commerce in Belgium and former Partner at Altius. Board member of De Warande.

   

Patrick JANSSENS (LSE Alumnus)

Mayor of Antwerp, former Councilor of the City of Antwerp for the Flemish Socialist Party, and former Member of the Belgian Parliament.

   

Syed KAMALL (LSE Alumnus)

Member of European Parliament for London, European Conservatives and Reformists. Vice-Chair of the Committee for Constitutional Affairs. Visiting Fellow at Leeds University Business School and Co-founder of the Global Business Research Institute (GBRI).

   

Claude MORAES (LSE Alumnus)

Member of European Parliament for London, Labour Party spokesperson for Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs. Former Director of the Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants and Chief Executive of the Immigrants' Aid Trust.

   

Michiel VAN HULTEN (LSE Alumnus)

Independent Consultant. Former Managing Director and Head of Government Relations at Burson-Marsteller Brussels. Former Member of the European Parliament and Chair of the Dutch Labour Party. Founding member of the European Council on Foreign Relations.

   

Lode WILLEMS

Director of External Affairs & Governmental BNP Paribas Fortis. Former Ambassador of Belgium to the UK, Germany and the United Nations in Geneva. Former Belgian Deputy Permanent Representative to the European Union and Chief of Cabinet of the Belgian Minister of Foreign Affairs.

   


Peter WITT (LSE Alumnus)

Head of the Siemens Liaison Office in Brussels. Former partner at GPlus Europe and former Deputy Permanent Representative of Germany to the European Union.
