LSE Alumni
2011 New Year's Reception with
Commissioner Georgieva
For their New
Year’s Reception 2011, we didn’t think twice and
invited the biggest political fish the LSE scene in Brussels
has to offer: for one evening, EU Commissioner for Humanitarian
Aid and Crisis Response Kristalina Georgieva, a research fellow
at the School between 1987 and 1988, put on her academic hat
again and gave an impressive account of her first year in
office in front of more than a hundred LSE Alumni residing
in Belgium. Commissioner Georgieva filled the beautiful UK
ambassador's residence with pictures and anecdotes of her
full agenda around the world to manage the EU’s crisis
response to mega-disasters like the earthquakes in Haiti,
Chile and China. Hosted by the British Ambassador to Belgium
Jonathan Brenton this event marked a formidable kick-off of
the year 2011. |
